Bourbon and Books: The End of the Ocean

The End of the Ocean paired with a Bourbon Summer Fruit Smash

For Earth Month on Bourbon and Books with New Dawn Distilling we're reading The End of the Ocean by Maja Lunde. This striking tale spanning 22 years, looks towards a future where water is scarce and war rages against the backdrop of an activist from the past and a father and daughter fighting for survival in the future.

In 2019, seventy-year-old Signe sets sail, crossing the ocean in a sailboat with a cargo that can change lives.

In 2041, David and his young daughter, Lou, separated from the rest of their family, flee from a drought-stricken Southern Europe. They discover Signe's now ancient sailboat in a dried-out garden, miles away from the nearest shore. As David and Lou discover Signe’s personal effects, her long ago journey becomes inexorably linked to their own.

Pairing with a Summer Fruit Smash to juxtapose today's bounty on the scarcity of the future in an effort to open your eye's to what could be if we don't act now.
