De Rigueur
Attributed to Prince Herbert Martin, a bartender at the Wynn-Stay Club in Kentucky and adapted by Toni Tipton Marton for Juke Joints, Jazz Clubs, and Juice. This "Cocktail for the Ladies," so characterized in the 1934 recipe booklet How to Make Old Kentucky Famed drinks, brings grapefruit, whiskey, and a bit of honey for a drink similar to The Gospel Truth but different enough to become de rigueur (see what I did there) in your repertoire.
De Rigueur
2 oz New Dawn Bourbon
1 oz grapefruit juice
1/2 oz lime
barspoon Honey syrup (3:1 honey to water)
garnish dried grapefruit
Combine ingredients in a mixing glass with ice. Stir until chilled and strain into a rocks glass over a large ice cube. Drizzle with additional honey and garnish with grapefruit slice if desired.
